Doctor Who picked up two awards in the 2018 I Talk Telly Awards, an annual Twitter poll which this year saw some 266,400 votes registered. The series won the Best Returning Drama category, whilst Mandip Gill was voted Best Newcomer.

BBC Worldwide have released details on the release of Series 10, Peter Capaldi’s final series as the Doctor, as a complete set, available on Monday 13th November.

In Series 10, the Doctor is keen to show his new friend, Bill Potts, the wonders of the universe, and their travels bring them face-to-face with Ice Warriors and Cybermen. His adventures draw to a terrifying conclusion as a long lost face from the past returns.

Once again there was a marked difference between different age groups in the reaction to each episode, with the 16-34 ages group generally enjoying each episode more than older viewers.

The most marked difference was in the reaction to Episode 11, World Enough and Time, where 16-34 years olds gave it an AI score of 89, those between 35-54 scored 85 while those above 55 scored it as 82.

World Enough and Time was the most popular episode with the 16-34 group, while they enjoyed The Lie Of The Land least giving it a score of 81.

The 35-54 age group had a smaller range in values scoring 85 for their top episodes (Thin Ice, Knock Knock, Oxygen, World Enough And Time) and 82 for their least favourite ones (The Pilot, The Pyramid At The End Of The World, The Eaters Of Light).

Meanwhile among the over 55's the range was even smaller with 6 episodes scoring the top score of 82, 3 scoring 81 and 3 scoring 80.

There was also a difference between the sexes with women generally scoring slightly higher than men. The exception was World Enough And Time which scored 85 amongst men and 84 amongst women. This was the men's favourite episode while women scored it equal to Smile, Thin Ice and The Doctor Falls

The men's least favourite episode was The Eaters Of Light while the women liked least Extremis, The Lie Of The Land and The Eaters Of Light.

Over 50% found the episodes all high quailty, and the programme also scored high as being fresh and new. The rating for It was memorable had a sharp peak for the final two episodes.

Doctor Who - The Doctor Falls had an official rating of 5.295 million viewers.

The episode was the 16th highest rated programme for the week and the 8th on BBC Television.

Doctor Who was the highest rated programme on Saturday, overtaking Casualty which beat it in the initial ratings. Top for the week was Coronation Street with 8.17 million watching.

The highest chart position was for The Pilot which came in at number 10. The lowest chart position was for The Lie Of The Land, which was the 30th most-watched programme of the week, having faced the final of ITV's talent show Britain's Got Talent.

All episodes since the revival of Doctor Who in 2005 have been one of the top 30 programmes of the week. This compares with the classic series where the lowest chart position was 170 for the second episode of the Fourth Doctor story Full Circle.

The Pilot is one of 57 episodes of Doctor Who to make the top 10 out of the 839 which have been broadcast.

The average final rating for this series is 5.45 million viewers, This is down from an average of 6.03 million for the 2015 series. The biggest drop in audience is for those in the 4-15 age group, which now account for around 8% of the total audience, as opposed to 11% in 2015. Since the revival the highest average has been for Series 4 shown in 2008, which had an average of 8.05 million watching.

Including Australian time-shifted viewers, World Enough and Time averaged 534,000 consolidated viewers in the five major capital cities. With 87,000 extra viewers it was the second highest time-shifted program of the day (the highest time-shifted program had 173,000 extra viewers) and the ninth highest rating program of the day overall. These ratings do not include iview or regional viewers.

Doctor Who - World Enough and Time had an official rating of 4.995 million viewers.

The episode was the 21st most watched programme of the week, and the 9th highest rated programme on the BBC.

The official rating is a much more accurate value than the initial overnight reported figure. It includes all those who recorded the programme and who watch it within one week.

Doctor Who was the second highest rated programme on Saturday, just behind Casualty which had just 3,000 more viewers.

The soaps took all top 13 places with Wednesday's Coronation Street at the head with 8.09 million watching. The BBC's highest rated programme was EastEnders with 6.12 million viewers. The highest rated non-soap was the BBC's Poldark with 5.93 million viewers.

Doctor Who - The Doctor Falls had an Audience Index or AI score of 83.

The score is an indication of how much the audience enjoyed the episode. Scores are drawn from a panel of around 20,000 people who are representative of the UK population. The score of 83 is regarded as good.

The highest score achieved by the two main channels on Saturday was for Casualty which scored 85.

The Doctor Falls has debuted in Australia, averaging 461,000 viewers in the five major capital cities. The story was the highest rating ABC drama of the day and the eleventh highest rating program of the day overall. These ratings do not include iview, regional or time-shifted viewers.

Meanwhile, including time-shifted viewers, The Eaters of Light averaged 463,000 consolidated viewers in the five major capital cities. With 73,000 extra viewers it was the third highest time-shifted program of the day (the highest time-shifted program had 162,000 extra viewers) and the eleventh highest rating program of the day overall. These ratings do not include iview or regional viewers.

Reaction to this year's Doctor Who finale, The Doctor Falls is overwhelmingly positive with most reviewers finding it a fitting end to the series.

A heartbreaking spectacular is how Digital Spy regarded the episode, singling out Peter Capaldi for praise "His "Where I stand is where I fall" speech is quite possibly the actor's finest moment on the series to date. With the Doctor, almost in tears, arguing why he always has to stand to fight, it just about pips even the famous anti-war rant from 'The Zygon Inversion'."

The Mirror felt the episode was an immensely satisfying conclusion with great storytelling and epic performances. "With all the teasers, build up and trailers it would have been so easy for The Doctor Falls to be a failure of a finale - but it really wasn’t. It was an immensely satisfying, packed, heart string tugging conclusion that comes together brilliantly for two simple reasons: clever storytelling and tremendous acting."

Radio Times also singled out the performances as one of the strong points about the episode. "Capaldi, Simm and Gomez are of course divine together. Peter Capaldi is magnificent as ever. This is truly his episode. His Doctor may fall but he stands tall among stiff competition. John Simm’s Master is an implacable bastard to the end but not the loon of seven years ago. Michelle Gomez is simply superb at the duplicity and the soul-searching and laughing at her own tragedy. Their dancing, flirting and backstabbing is to die for."

The the meeting of the two Masters and the Doctor is highlighted by The Guardian "I was overjoyed, on watching the confrontation between the three Timelords, that there was no soundtrack aside from the dialogue and some gentle birdsong. It was an example of less-is-more that I don’t think I’ve seen equalled in Doctor Who. As for that showdown, how else was it going to end? Two Masters stabbing themselves in the back (and front) was the perfect solution to evil coming up against itself"

The Telegraph also enjoyed the role of the two masters in the story "Together, Simm and the magnificent Michelle Gomez as Missy (who is a later version of the same rogue Time Lord) made a fantastic duo as they quibbled over whether to stand with the Doctor or continue their villainous ways"

IGN also enjoyed the dynamic between the two masters. "The way they’re sort of somewhere between brother-sister and boyfriend-girlfriend is suitably gross, and the Master’s presence and how it serves to draw Missy back to her old ways makes so much internal sense that Moffat doesn’t really even need to write it on the page"

Den of Geek paid tribute to Peter Capaldi's performance. "The majestic, wonderful, brilliant Peter Capaldi. If you needed a reminder of just how much he’s going to be missed when he finally departs Doctor Who at the end of the year, his outstanding work here was precisely that. When he was blasted, apparently mortally, and he kept holding off his regeneration , I found myself saying out loud “I don’t want you to go”."

AV Club called it s pitch perfect finale. "This is a Doctor who knows exactly who he is, played by an actor who knows exactly how he wants to play the part, facts that are ultimately absorbed into the narrative with the Doctor’s refusal to regenerate and turn into some new person. "

Vulture also paid tribute to the lead actor. "And then there’s Peter Capaldi. That speech! That grand speech he gives to the two Masters! If that doesn’t deserve to go viral, then I don’t know what does. That’s the speech we need for today, delivered with passion and vulnerability in the same episode that dares to name Donald Trump an inevitability. "

Slightly bucking the trend Ars Technica enjoyed the episode but felt it was a little cramped. "Plenty of action was squeezed into this hour of solid telly. But Moffat's decision to pack it so tightly, not only with the battle between Missy and the Master, but also with the onslaught of the Mondasian Cybermen, a heartbroken CyberBill (or RoboMop), and a small cast of country bumpkins living on a spaceship meant that the whole thing felt a little suffocating at times."

Finally Flickering Myth thought it was a fitting end to the series. "Everything about this final episode sums up everything that has been perfect about Series 10. Our main cast of Capaldi, Lucas and Mackie have been a fantastic trio within the four outer walls of the TARDIS. They’ve gelled exceptional well. Peter Capaldi is a magnificent Doctor, a person who captures the wisdom, madness, caring and frustration of a two-thousand year old Time Lord. Matt Lucas’ wit is spot on for the TARDIS, but when needed a look can make you wonder. And along with this we had the brilliant Pearl Mackie who is a blast of pure energy in the Companion line-up, with emotion, humour and humanity. All three have made Series 10 something wonderful to watch."

Doctor Who: The Doctor Falls was watched by 3.75 million viewers, a share of 25.3% of the total TV audicence, according to unofficial overnight figures.

Good weather across large parts of the UK resulted in another Saturday of low ratings with Casualty topping the chart with 4.05 million watching. Pointless Celebrities, shown just before Doctor Who, had 3.26 million viewers, while Pitch Battle, Shown after The Doctor Falls, had just 1.85 million.

On ITV the highest rated programme was The Voice Kids with 3.90 million watching. Against Doctor Who, Catchphrase had 3.36 million, while the film Quantum of Solace had 2.25 million watching.

NB: Viewers to BBC One HD in Scotland have reported having sound problems with the final five minutes of Doctor Who. The episode is complete on iPlayer.

Final figures will be available in 8 days time, with Doctor Who likely to top the chart for the day.
