Big Finish have announced that Fifth Doctor Peter Davison will battle the Daleks in Shadow of the Daleks, a new set of audio adventures for Big Finish.

Due in late 2020 as part of Big Finish’s Monthly Adventures range, these eight Doctor Who stories, split across two releases, star Davison chasing the Daleks through time and space on a journey of ultimate terror.

Each of the stories was recorded remotely during lockdown with a small “rep company” of brilliant actors including Nicholas Briggs, Dervla Kirwan, Anjli Mohindra and Olivier Award winner Jamie Parker.

Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor meets Samuel Barnett’s Cicero this September in a Doctor Who audio drama from Big Finish Productions as the Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa travel back to ancient Naples and the town of Cumae by the base of Mount Vesuvius.

The Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) resumes his travels in space and time this September with companions Tegan (Janet Fielding) and Nyssa (Sarah Sutton). But instead of exploring the far reaches of space he’s taking a little trip back in time to meet an icon of classical philosophy.

Cicero was a Roman politician, lawyer and orator living in a time when the Roman Empire was in a turbulent position due to the rise of Caeser. Cicero’s impact on Latin languages is immeasurable, which makes him a worthy candidate to meet the hero of space and time, the Doctor!

Samuel Barnett, the star of Cicero – a Big Finish Originals range – reprises his role to join the world of Doctor Who in Tartarus by David Llewellyn.

BBC Studios have announced Doctor Who Season 19 will be the next release in the Doctor Who: The Collection range.

Season 19 is Peter Davison’s first series as the Fifth Doctor and this edition follows the success of Tom Baker’s first season on Blu-ray which sold out within days of release.

The set will be released on the 19th November 2018, as a collector’s edition limited run.

The title will be available to pre-order from HMV and Amazon from tomorrow.

The Limited Edition Blu-ray includes brand new ‘Special Features’ exclusive to this set include: Five new ‘Making-Of’ documentaries for Castrovalva, Four To Doomsday, Black Orchid, Earthshock and Time-Flight, surround sound mixes for Kinda and Earthshock, an Extended Version of Black Orchid Part One, rare studio footage from Castrovalva, Four To Doomsday, Earthshock and Time-Flight, updated special effects for Castrovalva, seven more editions of Behind The Sofa and a newly-shot one-hour interview Peter Davison In Conversation with Matthew Sweet, and much more.

The eight-disc box set also includes the Peter Davison/David Tennant mini-episode Time Crash, plus hours of extensive special features previously released on DVD.

All 26 episodes are being remastered from scratch by Peter Crocker and Mark Ayres. With this season’s original 16mm film elements still in existence, the location material can be presented in true HD, with studio material upscaled. Lee Binding is again providing stunning packaging design and Pete McTighe has written extensive booklet notes and is the content consultant for the title.

German DVD distributer Pandastorm Pictures announced on their Facebook page the release of The Caves of Androzani ("Die Höhlen von Androzani") for the German market. The serial will be dubbed to German specifically for this release, as no German dub exists for any story before The Twin Dilemma, with the exception of The Five Doctors.

The Caves of Androzani has never been broadcasted on German television. In the late 80's and early 90's German TV channel RTL Plus transmitted all serials featuring the seventh Doctor. In 1995 the channel VOX aired The Five Doctors and all serials featuring the sixth Doctor. All those stories have been released by Pandastorm Pictures on DVD boxed sets in the past few years.

There will be two different versions of Die Höhlen von Androzani:

• Collectors Edition Mediabook: Limited and numbered to 1,500 copies. This edition looks like a book and will feature an extensive booklet and the English- and German-language soundtracks and subtitles. Also includes all special features that can be found on the UK Special Edition DVD. Release date: 25th August 2017
  
• Regular Edition: Will be the same as the Mediabook, only in a standart DVD slip case. Release date: 13th October 2017

All Doctor Who DVD's by Pandastorm Pictures are usually code-free. The DVD is not available for pre-order yet.

The Worzel Book

A new book about the making of Jon Pertwee's Worzel Gummidge series, has just been released.

The Worzel Book is written by Stuart Manning. It is the story of what Pertwee did after Doctor Who, told through memories from his family and work colleagues, including Bernard Cribbins, Geoffrey Bayldon and Sean Pertwee. The book features more than 40 interviews with cast and crew from the show, over 400 photographs and has a foreword by Mark Gatiss. The Worzel Book can be ordered directly from the publisher, Miwk Publishing at a discount price for a limited time.

A Dozen Summers

A new family comedy featuring Colin Baker gets its release later this month.

A Dozen Summers is narrated by the Sixth Doctor and will have its official DVD release in the UK on August 15th.

The DVD will include a special behind-the-scenes featurette entitled In the Studio with Colin Baker. The DVD is available for pre-order on Amazon

Fifth Doctor Peter Davison appeared at the MCM Comic Con in London this weekend, and AudioBoom has released four clips from their coverage of the event.

In the clips Davison talks about how he won the role of The Doctor, who he thinks is the best companion in the series, his thoughts on the DVD commentaries and how he made The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Sir John Hurt is to return to the London stage in a new production of John Osborne's The Entertainer. The War Doctor will play the part of Billy Rice opposite Sir Kenneth Branagh playing Archie Rice, in the play which runs at the Garrick from 20 August to 12 November. The performance will be broadcast live to cinemas worldwide, on a date to be announced.

Meanwhile Catherine Tate opens next week in a new musical, Miss Atomic Bomb. Tate plays Myrna Ranapapadophilou in the new production set in Las Vegas in 1952, where every mushroom cloud has a silver lining and fallout is your friend. The musical runs from 7 March - 9 April 2016 at London's St James Theatre.

Those receiving accolades for past success, include Fifth Doctor Peter Davison, who is nominated as Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, in both the acclaimed Oliver Awards and the WhatsOnStage awards. The actor is nominated for his portrayal of Herbie in the Savoy Theatre production of the musical Gypsy. Also nominated from the productions is Imelda Staunton as Best Actress in a Musical.

Other Oliver nominees this year include David Haig as Best Actor in a Musical for Guys and Dolls, and Mark Gatiss as Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Three Days in the Country.

Peter Davison is writing his autobiography, which is currently titled The Fifth(ish) Doctor and will be published in April 2016. The book will feature a foreword by his son-in-law and former Doctor, David Tennant.

Davison is only the third Doctor actor to write an autobiography. Jon Pertwee wrote two autobiographies; 1984's Moon Boots and Dinner Suits (republished in 2013) and I am the Doctor in 1996, the year of his death. Tom Baker came out with Who on Earth is Tom Baker? in 1997, though he didn't mention much of Doctor Who. While not autobiographies, Colin Baker released two books; Look Who's Talking (2010) and Second Thoughts (2011) which were compilations of the columns he wrote for Bucks Free Press.
