Doctor Who Live - First Glasgow Performance Cancelled

The performance of Doctor Who Live scheduled for the Glasgow SECC on 14th October has been cancelled for what is described as logistical reasons.

Ticket holders should contact the box office which is offering refunds or seats at alternative performances during the run.

Frank Jarvis 1940 - 2010

Frank JarvisThe actor Frank Jarvis has died at the age of 70.

Jarvis played characters in three Doctor Who stories. He first appeared in the 1966 story The War Machines as a corporal; then it wasn't until Tom Baker assumed the role that he returned to the series to play Ankh in the 1978 CSO-laden story Underworld. A year later he featured as swampie Skart in The Power of Kroll.

Outside of Doctor Who, he had a variety of roles in film and television, including the character of Roger in the original The Italian Job film with Michael Caine, and alongside former Doctor Colin Baker in the BBC series The Brothers.

Frank Jarvis died on 15th September 2010.

Sarah Jane's Alien Files

The BBC have announced that a series of special shows will accompany The Sarah Jane Adventures on CBBC. The specials, entitled Sarah Jane's Alien Files, will allow Sarah Jane and her friends to "recount their adventures each week – the ultimate guide of everything you could possibly need to know when facing hostile aliens."

The first episode of Sarah Jane's Alien Files will follow part one of The Nightmare Man, at 5:45-6:20pm on CBBC.

Note: the 'terrestrial' repeat of The Nightmare Man will be on BBC2 on Wednesday 13th/Thursday 14th October (due to Commonwealth Games coverage) - the series will continue on BBC1 for the following adventure, The Vault Of Secrets.

New Christmas Clips

The BBC has released a Drama Showreel showcasing the new drama output coming up on the BBC over the next six months, featuring clips from the 2010 Christmas Special of Doctor Who.



The showreel was previewed at an event marking two years in post for BBC Controller of Drama, Ben Stephenson.

Other dramas featured include performances from the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors:

  • Christopher Eccleston stars in an episode of Accused, a new drama series from Jimmy McGovern for BBC One.
  • David Tennant plays Dave in Single Father coming to BBC One on Sunday 10 October.
  • Matt Smith plays Christopher Isherwood in Christopher and his Kind coming to BBC Two next month.

    Exhibitions Close - New Attraction Planned

    Doctor Who:ExhibitionsBBC Worldwide has announced the closure of the Doctor Who Exhibitions currently running in Cardiff, Newcastle and Land's End.

    A new and larger attraction is being developed at a new location in Cardiff.

    A statement from BBC Worldwide says
    We have consulted with the City Council for the past 18 months regarding our plans and we are confident that the new attraction’s features, size and location will draw many more fans to the Welsh capital from across the UK.

    The current Cardiff Exhibition has drawn over half a million visitors since it opened in December 2005 at the Red Dragon Centre, Cardiff Bay. It will run until 27th March 2011. The Land's End exhibition will close on 2nd January 2011 and the Newcastle one on 31 October 2010.

    Further details regarding the new Cardiff attraction will be published shortly.

    The Nightmare Man

    Sarah Jane Adventures: The Nightmare ManThe BBC has released synopsis for The Nightmare Man, the first story in the new series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

    The series will premiere on CBBC on Monday 11th October at 5.15pm, with Part Two being shown the following day.

    In a change to the DWM infomation, the BBC One repeats will now be on Wednesday and Thursday at 4.30pm.
    Part One
    In the first two-part adventure, The Nightmare Man, Sarah Jane's adopted son, Luke, faces life-changing events and Bannerman Road will never be the same again when he has his first nightmare and is haunted by a dark figure from his dreams. A strange entity is reaching out to our world, with terrible consequences for the whole human race.

    With Luke, Clyde and Rani trapped in a bizarre dreamscape, Sarah Jane must fight alone in the concluding part of the first story in the fourth series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
    As the Nightmare Man grows stronger, only K9 might hold the key, but can Luke summon the courage to face his adult life before the whole world becomes trapped in an endless nightmare?

    Series One Wins + New Offer - Updated

    Doctor Who: See SawDoctor Who has overwhelmingly won the vote held by See Saw and as a result the entire Series One of Doctor Who will be available  to rent from  their website from Tuesday 28th September for 99p. Although the series needs to be purchased today, viewers then have up to 90 days to watch the series.

    Because the competition was so popular, SeeSaw, has announced a second Tight Tuesday promotion, just for readers of The Doctor Who News Page.

    Voting will be between Doctor Who Series 2, Doctor Who Series 3 and Doctor Who Series 4.
    It was intended to have Torchwood as the fourth option, but this has had to be removed due to admin reasons. Instead the three Doctor Who Series are up against Series One of Battlestar Galactica.

    Louis Marks 1928 - 2010

    The writer Louis Marks has died at the age of 82.

    Louis Marks wrote four stories for Doctor Who. In 1965 he wrote the first story of Season Two, Planet of Giants, the first contemporary story in the series since the first episode. He returned to the series in 1972 to plot the return of the Daleks after a gap of several years in Day of the Daleks a story which saw the introduction of the Ogrons.

    For the Fourth Doctor he penned two stories, Planet of Evil in 1975 was set on the far distant planet Zeta Minor on the edge of the universe, while The Masque of Mandragora a year later was set in 15th century Italy.

    His work away from Doctor Who included The Man Who Finally Died (1967) for the BBC and Special Branch for Thames Television (1970). He wrote for Danger Man with Patrick McGoohan, and for the Doomwatch series. His work as a producer included The Lost Boys (1978), Fearless Frank (1979) and the BBC's adaptation of George Eliot's Middlemarch (1994).

    Louis Marks died on 17th September, 2010.
