Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was watched by 135,320 viewers on New Zealand's Prime channel last Thursday, and was once again the highest-rated programme for the channel that evening. Though down on last week's series opener, for comparison Night Terrors last year achieved 119,850 viewers (22 Sep 2011).

For other channels, similarly the top two shows were again TV2's Embarrassing Bodies (340,590 viewers) and TV3's The X Factor USA (311,730, 7:30-9:30pm average), followed by Sky Sport 2's International Netball (166,080, 7:40-9:05pm average), FOUR's American Dad (70,270, 8:30pm) and Family Guy (69,830, 9:00pm), Sky Sport 1's ITM Cup Rugby (43,080, 7:30-9:10pm average), and Maori TV's Code (22,890). Top show of the day was One News on TV One with 676,040 viewers.


Meanwhile, Asylum of the Daleks has topped the time-shifted TV ratings, with some 41,740 viewers - the figure indicates that almost a fifth of the total audience watching the show did so in this way! The consolidated rating for the show is now 213,430 viewers (19.56% share).

Yesterday's premiere of Asylum of the Daleks in New Zealand was watched by 171,690 viewers on Prime, making it the highest-rated programme on the channel for the day and the second highest rated episode for the Eleventh Doctor so far - The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe achieved 175,970 viewers on 19th January.

The premiere of Let's Kill Hitler, broadcast around this time on 15th September, achieved 117,100 viewers.


For other channels on the night, Embarrassing Bodies on TV2 won the time-slot with 380,860 viewers; 307,170 watched The X Factor USA (started at 7:30-9:30pm average), 224,900 watched TV One's Four Weddings, 74,770 watched Family Guy on Four (9:00pm start), 64,450 watched the ITM Cup Rugby on Sky Sport 1 (7:35-9:15pm average), 38,600 watched Code on Maori TV, 34,410 watched Law and Order Criminal Intent on The Box, and Tower Heist on Sky Movies 1 was watched by 21,250. Top show of the day was One News on TV One, with 678,810 tuning in.

New Zealand broadcaster Prime has announced that it will launch the next series of Doctor Who on Thursday 13th September at 8:30pm.

The news indicates that this year viewers in New Zealand have less than a fortnight to wait until they see the new episodes after their debut in the United Kingdom, the shortest period between transmissions for a series since the show returned in 2005!

PRIME's synopsis for Asylum of the Daleks:
Join the Doctor, the Ponds and numerous friends on their latest escapades through time and space in this brand new series, where they puzzle an unexpected invasion of Earth, save a spaceship full of dinosaurs, and even don Stetsons in a Wild Wild West adventure. Tonight, kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission - to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter... the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory’s relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Ponds' marriage.

New Zealand broadcaster PRIME have announced the premiere of the Christmas Special The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe for Thursday 19th January, 8:30-9:50pm.

The channel also has a microsite available for the Special.

Evacuated to a house in Dorset from war-torn London, Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, are greeted by a madcap caretaker whose mysterious Christmas gift leads them into a magical wintry world.

In New Zealand, both Doctor Who and Torchwood: Miracle Day have enjoyed a boost in ratings. Closing Time and Immortal Sins (both on Prime) rated 171,280 viewers and 89,710 viewers respectively. Closing Time was Prime's highest rating program of the week.

The Wedding of River Song has debuted in Australia to strong ratings. TV Tonight reports that the episode averaged 708,000 viewers in the five major capital cities. It was the second highest rating drama and the sixth highest rating programme for the day overall. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown rated 488,000 viewers in the five major capitals. These overnight figures, however, do not include regional, rural and time-shifted viewers and hence significantly understate the actual national ratings.

Meanwhile in New Zealand, The God Complex on Prime rated 96,430 viewers. There was no episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day this week due to the broadcast of an international netball match.

The second half of the 2011 series of Doctor Who premiered on Prime TV on Thursday evening with Let's Kill Hitler receiving 117,110 viewers according to unofficial overnight figures.

The first episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day also premiered on Prime at the beginning of this month with 119,440 viewers while Episode 2 dropped to 58,550 and Episode 3 slightly increased to 73,910 viewers.

Prime Evening News was the most watched programme of the day on Prime for the 1st, 8th and 15th of September.
