Rex Robinson 1926-2015Bookmark and Share

The actor Rex Robinson has died at the age of 89.

He appeared in three Doctor Who stories, all directed by Australian Lennie Mayne.

In 1972 he played Dr. Tyler in the 10th anniversary story The Three Doctors, playing the scientist who joined forces with The Doctor and UNIT to help defeat Omega. He returned the following year in The Monster of Peladon, to play Gebek, a Peladonian trisilicate miner. His final appearance in Doctor Who came in 1976 when he played another Doctor, Dr Carter in the Tom Baker story The Hand of Fear.

Away from Doctor Who Robinson appeared in a number of classic British Television programmes including Gems, Bread, One by One, Only Fools and Horses...., Just Good Friends, Are You Being Served?, Terry and June, The Onedin Line, Softly Softly: Task Force, Warship, Upstairs, Downstairs, Callan, The Plane Makers, Ghost Squad and Champion Road.

Rex Robinson is survived by his wife Patricia Pryor, who also appeared in The Three Doctors.

Silva Screen have revealed details of the soundtrack release for Series 8 and Last Christmas, which will be released on 18th of May 2015.

Doctor Who: Series 8 will be the first soundtrack release of music from the twelfth Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi, featuring the new Doctor’s theme A Good Man? (Twelve’s Theme). This 3 disc set also includes the music from the episode Last Christmas and an extensive 24 page booklet with notes from Murray Gold. The score is performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Murray Gold (computer instruments, guitars and synths) and conducted by Ben Foster and James Shearman. The first 5000 copies of the CD will include an extra 16 page booklet depicting the 13 Radio Times posters, one for each episode. All pre-ordered product on this store will include the extra booklet.

Doctor Who Coming to DisneyXDBookmark and Share

The exploits of the Tenth Doctor are coming to Disney XD in North America, from Saturday, May 9.

Disney XD, which is home to top-rated action adventure programming including Lucasfilm's Star Wars Rebels and Marvel Television's animated series, has picked up Doctor Who Series 2 to 4, starring David Tennant as the Doctor.

The series will begin st 9:00 p.m., ET/PT with a preview airing of New Earth following the Disney XD premiere of Fantastic Four. In "New Earth," the Doctor and Rose board the TARDIS for new adventures in time and space. But when they visit mankind’s new home, far in the future, they find gruesome secrets hidden inside a luxury hospital. And an enemy thought long since dead, the paper-thin Cassandra, is out for revenge.

Season Two, "Adventures in time and space," will continue to rollout on Disney XD beginning Saturday, June 13. The special week-long programming event will give fans eight episodes airing daily Saturday, June 13 through Saturday, June 20. Beginning June 14, episodes will also be available on the WATCH Disney XD app, which allows consumers to watch on tablets, phones, computers and connected TVs.

Doctor Who: Listen has been nominated for a 2015 Hugo Award.

The episode, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Douglas Mackinnon, was the fourth episode of Series Eight, shown worldwide last Autumn, and is nominated in the Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form category.

Other shows nominated include Game of Thrones, which has triumphed at the awards in the previous two years.

BBC Worldwide has announced a new collaboration with content distribution service BitTorrent to mark a decade of new Doctor Who.

To celebrate ten years since the series reboot, the file sharing network will be offering a ten story box set featuring specially selected highlights from the modern era of Doctor Who for $12 globally.

The package will include exclusive video content from incumbent Doctor Peter Capaldi who gives his insight into some of his favourite Doctor Who episodes as well as Doctor Who: Earth Conquest – the documentary about the 2014 global tour which saw Capaldi and companion Jenna Coleman travel the world to meet their fans.

Maisie Williams to Guest Star in Doctor WhoBookmark and Share

Maisie Williams (Credit: BBC/ Simon Ridgway)The BBC has announced that Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is to star in a guest role in the next series of Doctor Who.

Williams is renowned for her role as Arya Stark in the international fantasy drama series. She also starred in the one-off docu-drama Cyberbully and was cast as one of the leads of Carol Morley’s drama The Falling. As well as being a three-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee, in February of this year she was awarded with a Shooting Star Award at the Berlin Film Festival.

On her first day on set, Maisie Williams said:
I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.
Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, added:
We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.
Two more story details have been released by the BBC. The first is The Girl Who Died which is written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat. Mathieson wrote the aclaimed Series Eight stories Mummy On The Orient and Flatline. Also announced is The Woman Who Lived by Catherine Tregenna. Tregenna wrote four episodes of Torchwood: Out of Time, Meat, Adam and Captain Jack Harkness, which was nominated for the 2008 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.

The two stories will be directed by Ed Bazalgette, currently earning rave reviews for working on the BBC One 18th-century drama Poldark.

Comedian and actor Rufus Hound, who recently appeared in the series Cucumber, also joins the guest cast alongside BBC Three’s Siblings and CBBC’s Horrible Histories star Tom Stourton, Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce, and Struan Rodger.

The series returns this Autumn.
