Target Exhibition ExtendedBookmark and Share

Friday, 13 May 2016 - Reported by Marcus
The exhibition showcasing original cover artwork from the Target range of Doctor Who novels has been extended and will now run until Sunday, June 5th

The display, at the Cartoon Museum in Bloomsbury in London, features 30 pieces of art, which were commissioned for the cover illustrations of Doctor Who novelisations, published during the 1970's and 1980's under the Target imprint

The exhibition was due to close this weekend, but due to popular demand it has now been extended for a further three weeks.

The exhibition was the brainchild of current Doctor Who brand manager Edward Russell, who told Doctor Who News
With no idea how popular the exhibition would be, we originally wanted to host it for 2 weeks. However, I’m delighted that it’s been extended to the 5th June. Particularly as it’s now covered two Bank Holidays meaning that heaps of Doctor Who fans are able to see these wonderful paintings up close.

It doesn’t matter how familiar we are with the images – seeing them in the flesh is a wonderful experience. Some of them are so much bigger than they appeared on the book, meaning we can now study each brush stroke and ink dot. Many of them aren’t much bigger than they appeared in print which is quite a revelation. The attention to detail in those paintings by Roy Knipe and Jeff Cummins is truly breathtaking.
The Cartoon Museum opened to the public at its current home in central London in 2006 and features three main galleries displaying original artwork from British cartoons and comics. A spokesman for the museum told Doctor Who News
This has been one of our most popular displays in recent years and we're very pleased to be extending it for a few more weeks. Hopefully Doctor Who fans from all over the country (and beyond!) will have the chance to come and see it for themselves.

Doctor Who, RiffTrax-styleBookmark and Share

Tuesday, 3 May 2016 - Reported by Chuck Foster
The latest BBC Insiders survey has been canvassing participants over the viability of running a live RiffTrax screening event in cinemas around the United States based around a story from 20th Century Doctor Who.

Following a brief video example utilising Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150AD, the survey then asks how interested the participant would be in attending an event based around such a presentation, with suggested stories including The Twin Dilemma, Warriors of the Deep, The Gunfighters, Robot, The Tomb of the Cybermen, The Five Doctors, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Four to Doomsday, Timelash, Time-Flight, and The Horns of Nimon. There's also an option to say which stories shouldn't be "riffed"!

Please note that the survey request does not mean that such an event will take place, only that such an event is being considered.
