Character Options have announced
a new series of exclusive Doctor Who merchandise that will be available later this summer from local B&M stores in the UK:

Fans of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdrivers will be able to get their hands on a heritage set of three popular incarnations.. The new blister-pack series will include electronic versions, inspired by the 50th anniversary episode, of the Tenth, Eleventh and War Doctor’s sonics.

For action figure fans, Character Options presents a set of three unique Doctor & Dalek Twin Packs, inspired by the Doctor Who audio series from Big Finish. This includes a brand new take on the Eighth Doctor, plus the Dalek Interrogator Prime, as featured in Big Finish audio book story In the Garden of Death. The two additional Doctor and Daleks sets to be released from this range will feature the Seventh and War Doctors respectively.

This year there will be not one, but two new TARDIS & Doctor sets released, each with a completely new take on both the Doctor and the blue box, inspired by adventures spanning the 1970s and 1980s.

To complete the summer line-up there are three brand new collector sets with a range of three figures in each, inspired by the Classic adventures of the Second, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors.

Ahead of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, BBC Studios announces the 2019 Doctor Who Fan Art Competition, giving fans an opportunity to see their own work on a Doctor Who t-shirt, with a limited quantity available for purchase at the BBC AMERICA booth at San Diego Comic-Con.

As anticipation for the next series builds, fans can channel their creative energy into an innovative rendition of the TARDIS and their favourite Doctor. Entrants can create anything from a candy mosaic of Tom Baker to a bowtie collage of Matt Smith – the possibilities are endless!

The competition closes on 15th May 2019 at 1:00pm BST (8:00am ET).


A panel of judges will select one grand prize winner and four runner-up artists. The grand prize winner and a guest will receive an exclusive Doctor Who-themed weekend trip to London, which includes:
  • Two nights accommodation
  • Special afternoon tea for two
  • Doctor Who Escape Room activity in Reading, United Kingom
  • Exclusive private screening of the fan’s favorite Doctor Who episode
  • Having their artwork printed on limited-edition Doctor Who merchandise sold at San Diego Comic-Con

Art Specifications: Each entrant must design their own original piece of Doctor Who fan art in accordance with the following criteria:
  • Artwork must feature both the TARDIS and one Doctor *
  • The Artwork may also, at the entrant’s discretion, include a background texture, splash of colour or other abstract background design, but must not feature any other design element, including (without limit) any other Doctor, character, companion, monster, robot, prop, location, building or branding element (including third party brand names and logos), whether from the Doctor Who universe or otherwise.
  • Artwork can be created in any two-dimensional medium and any color.
  • Artwork must not include identifiers such as the entrant’s name, signature, image, likeness or any other identifier, or any reference to Comic-Con.

Submitting artwork: Each entrant must complete the entry form and upload their artwork in digital format on the Fan Art Competition website in accordance with the following criteria:
  • Artwork must be submitted in RGB high res formats (TIFF, JPEG, PNG, or GIF).
  • Artwork resolution must be a minimum of 300 dpi.
  • Artwork must measure at least 260mm x 260mm when printed at 100% and must not measure more than 381mm x 508mm.
  • Each entrant may submit multiple entries, as long as each separate entry consists of a different artwork. Entrants can only win one prize in the competition.


The competition is open to legal residents of the United Kingdom, the fifty United States and the District of Columbia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Australia, and New Zealand who at the time of entry are at least 18 years of age, or the legal age of majority in the jurisdiction in which they reside (whichever is higher). The grand prize winner and four finalists will be revealed at the BBC AMERICA booth during San Diego Comic-Con in July.

Doctor Who: Resolution had an official rating of 7.13 million viewers, according to figures released by the Broadcasting Research Audience Board, BARB.

6.95 million watched the episode on a conventional TV set. However the BARB 4-Screen Dashboard shows that an additional 73,000 watched on their PC, 54,000 watched on a Tablet device and 44,000 watched on a smartphone These figures make Doctor Who the 14th most watched programme of the week ending 6th January.

Top for the week was the New Year Fireworks on BBC One getting 12.27 million watching.

The final rating is the lowest consolidated rating for a Christmas/New Year special since the series returned in 2005.

Doctor Who: Resolution was watched by 5.15 million viewers, a share of 22.4% of the total TV audience, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The rating makes Doctor Who the fourth highest rated programme for New Year's Day. Top was the BBC One Drama Luther with 5.63 million watching. On ITV two programmes edged above the Doctor, Coronation Street had 5.39 million watching, while Emmerdale had 5.17 million. EastEnders had 4.74 million viewers and the Mrs Brown's Boys New Year Special had 5.06 million watching.

The return of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? had 3.39 million viewers, but was beaten by Bradley Walsh in The Chase with 3.86 million.

Final figures should be available next week, which will include those who recorded the programme and watched it later.

6.48 million watched the episode on a conventional TV set. However the BARB 4-Screen Dashboard shows that an additional 73,000 watched on their PC, 51,000 watched on a Tablet device and 44,000 watched on a smartphone These figures make Doctor Who the 18th most watched programme of the week ending 2nd December.

Top for the week was Sunday's final of I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here getting 13.04 million watching.

Doctor Who in 2018 had an average consolidated audience of 7.96 million viewers. This is the highest year average since 2013, which was boosted by including the 50th Anniversary special.

The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos had an Appreciation Index score of 79

The rating makes Doctor Who the fourth highest rated programme for Sunday and the 21st for the week ending 9th December.

Highest for the day and the week was the final of ITV’s celebrity show, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here which had 11.06 million watching. All 7 editions of the programme were in the top ten for the week. Strictly Come Dancing - Results Show had 8.98 million viewers, while Dynasties, the David Attenborough series had 6.33 million. The BBC Drama Care had 2.57 million.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale pushed The Doctor down in the weekly chart, although a top twenty place is likley when final figures are releaed next week.
