Time Heist - AI:84

Monday, 22 September 2014 - Reported by Marcus
Doctor Who Time Heist had an Audience Appreciation Index or AI score of 84.

The Appreciation Index or AI is a measure of how much the audience enjoyed the programme. The score, out of a hundred, is compiled by a specially selected panel of around 5,000 people who go online and rate and comment on programmes.

Overall Doctor Who rated slightly higher with Women rather than Men and scored the highest within the 16-34 age group.

The X Factor once again topped the ratings for Sunday with 8.7 million viewers, while the return of Downton Abbey had 8.4 million viewers. Doctor Who is currently in 24th place for the week. Final figures will be published next week.

The Sunday repeat of Tim Heist on BBC Three had an overnight estimate of 0.24 million viewers, a 1.0% share of the audience.

Miwk Publishing are publishing a complete collection of Tim Quinn/Dicky Howett Doctor Who work in a new book to be published next year.

For over a decade Tim Quinn and Dicky Howett provided a regular comic strip Doctor Who? for Marvel Comics' Doctor Who Magazine. For the first time all their strips will be collected here, together with strips from specials, annuals and yearbooks as well as their two previously published books It’s Bigger on the Inside and The Doctor Who Fun Book.

Where possible, the publishers are attempting to source original artwork to use to ensure the best material is used in the compilation. If you have a piece of Dicky Howett's Doctor Who artwork - much of which he sold or gave away - and are willing for it to be scanned for the book, please get in touch on info@miwkpublishing.com. Radio Times - Time Heist Poster

Saturday, 20 September 2014 - Reported by Marcus
Radio Times' gallery of free downloadable retro posters for the current series of Doctor Who continues to grow with the creation by designer Stuart Manning for Time Heist which airs tonight.

Manning said:
Slinky Miss Delphox was the starting point for this one. Keeley Hawes' publicity pic had such a great silhouette that I immediately wanted to include it. I did a poster for Mad Men a couple of years back, using a similar treatment on Joan, and the idea stuck in my head.

The other influence was the heist movie inspiration of the episode itself, which got me thinking about things like Ocean's 11 and the Rat Pack. In my head, this a sorta special Saul Bass-style title sequence for the episode, playing alongside a Henry Mancini sax-and-harpsichord arrangement of the Doctor Who theme.
Time Heist will be broadcast at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Special Event at Hamleys

Friday, 19 September 2014 - Reported by Marcus
Starting this weekend, a special Doctor Who event take place at five Hamleys Toy Shops in locations around the UK, when a series of uniquely numbered exclusive posters will be available for fans to get their hands on.

The posters are the first and only collector’s posters ever created by the producers of the official Doctor Who figures, Character Options. On each poster the entire collection of 3 ¾ inch figures they have released to date are shown. Only 250 of the posters have been produced for the five Hamleys stores (London Regent Street, Glasgow, Cardiff, Dublin and Manchester) and each is uniquely numbered from 1-250 for authenticity.

The poster has been created to celebrate the launch of the latest series of Doctor Who figures, which have been produced to commemorate the new TV series and the brand new Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. The new figure of the Twelfth Doctor in his chosen outfit has been shipped to Hamleys especially for this event

To be eligible fans must purchase an item from Hamleys’ Doctor Who collection. The posters will be available as a free gift with that purchase but only while stocks last. There is no minimum spend, but as the gift is unique it is restricted to one per customer.

Grant Yuill, Marketing Manager of Hamleys commented
Our free limited edition Doctor Who poster day is a very exciting event for our shops. Doctor Who has so many fans that like to collect the figures and other memorabilia but now with the chance of owning one of these very exclusive posters we expect there to be a huge demand. Christmas Special cast announced

Friday, 19 September 2014 - Reported by Chuck Foster
The BBC have announced the guest cast for the forthcoming Christmas Special, which will almost certainly follow tradition and be broadcast on Christmas Day:

Cast Chairs for the 2014 Christmas Special (Credit: BBC)Nick Frost, actor and screen writer, has starred in numerous hit film and television roles, including Spaced, The World’s End, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Cuban Fury and Paul, which he also wrote.

Nick comments:
I'm so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas special, I'm such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream "No spoilers!” Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan boy squeals!
Michael Troughton (Breathless, The New Statesman), who has recently returned to acting, will follow in his father’s footsteps by appearing in Doctor Who. His father, Patrick Troughton, played the second incarnation of the Doctor.

They will be joined by Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street, Ideal, Strictly Come Dancing), Faye Marsay (Pride, The White Queen, Fresh Meat) and Nathan McMullen (Misfits, Casualty).

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, says:
Frost at Christmas - it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the Tintin movie many years ago and it's a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the TARDIS.
The Doctor Who Christmas special will air on BBC One. Written by Steven Moffat and directed by Paul Wilmshurst (Strike Back, Combat Kids, and the forthcoming Kill The Moon and Mummy on the Orient Express this series), it is being shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales Roath Lock Studios.
