Tenth Doctor and Rose on Vinyl in HMV

Wednesday, 30 May 2018 - Reported by Marcus
Infamy of the Zaross (Credit: Big Finish)The Big Finish audio drama Infamy of the Zaross is being released for the first time on vinyl record.

The product is part of an exclusive deal with High Street retailer HMV and will be available from 16th June. The story stars David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose.

The strictly limited pressing of Infamy of the Zaross is on yellow 180GM heavyweight vinyl and limited to 750 units.

David Tennant’s Doctor, portrayed on screen from December 2005 until January 2010, returned in the 50th Anniversary special The Day of the Doctor, with Matt Smith and Sir John Hurt in 2013, and on audio for Big Finish with Catherine Tate in 2016.

Billie Piper portrayed the Doctor’s much-loved companion Rose in 2005 and 2006, returning for a number of stories in 2008. She also appeared as The Moment – which had taken Rose’s form – in The Day of the Doctor. This new story was Billie’s eagerly-awaited debut for Big Finish.

A spokesperson from HMV said
We're delighted to welcome Dr. Who back on vinyl in time for for Father's Day. It's just what the Doctor ordered!
Infamy of the Zaross guest stars Camille Coduri as Jackie Tyler who is Rose Tyler's mum. When Jackie takes a trip to visit her old friend Marge in Norwich, she finds her holiday immediately interrupted in the worst way possible - an alien invasion! The infamous Zaross have come to take over Earth. Or have they?

John Dorney (Credit: Big Finish)Writer John Dorney says
I'm delighted to see Infamy of the Zaross on vinyl, especially in HMV. I’ve still got my Gran’s old His Master's Voice record player in my house. Quite a prized bit of furniture, which has such a store of memories for me... This record renaissance is delightful and I'm looking forward to listening to that beautiful warm sound on yellow vinyl soon.
Nicholas Briggs executive producer for Big Finish added
It was such a special time for me, working with Billie and David on the TV show, and it is such an honour to revisit it with them on audio.
Executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery says:
Getting David and Billie back together was definitely on my bucket list – two wonderful actors who created an era of Doctor Who which is so fondly remembered and who brought a different aspect of the relationship between the Doctor and his companion to the fore – love, both platonic and unrequited. It’s great to have the Tenth Doctor and Rose on record!
The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume 2, was first released in November 2017 and includes Infamy of the Zaross and two further Tenth Doctor adventures.

David Tennant Accepts Damages from News Group Newspapers

Wednesday, 31 January 2018 - Reported by Marcus
Doctor Number Ten, David Tennant, has accepted substantial undisclosed damages from News Group Newspapers, the publishers of the now-closed News of the World, over a historic phone-hacking claim.

The Newspaper group owned by Rupert Murdoch has settled the case and apologised to the actor for the misuse of private information.

Tennant was among six people to settle claims on Tuesday, including actress Sophia Myles who played Reinette in the 2006 Doctor Who story The Girl in the Fireplace.

The lawsuit was launched in March 2017, and relates to activities by journalists on the Sunday Tabloid, which closed in 2011 after it was revealed that a number of phones belonging to people in the news had been hacked.

Lawyer Sara Mansoori said that Tennant is a very private individual and he is outraged and shocked by the invasions of his privacy by individuals working for, or acting on behalf, of the News of the World".

Ben Silverstone, acting on behalf of News Group Newspapers, said the company offered sincere apologies for the distress caused, and it accepted no right to intrude into his private life in any way.

In 2013 Christopher Eccleston also received a public apology, substantial damages and his legal costs from the company.

The actor, who studied at the Conservatoire between 1988 and 1991 when it was called the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, said:
I'm honoured and rather humbled to be here - it's all quite overwhelming but lovely to be back. It evokes some very vivid memories. It was a very important time for me. I don't think I would have survived without my time here - for me it was essential. Three years of getting to practice in a safe environment. I was quite young, quite green, and I did a lot of growing up here and learned an enormous amount. They were very formative years that I look back on very fondly.
